The final stop of the trip was Berkeley, which included dinner at one of their famously great pizza parlors -- Cheeseboard Pizza, where you eat to live music -- and a quick tour of the city, which is rich architecturally. Two buildings made a strong impression on me. Seen above is the Julia Morgan Center for the Arts, built originally as a church by Hearst Castle architect Julia Morgan, and later housing a Montessori school where Kate used to work. The other building is the Berkeley Public Library. We were driving around and I was struck by its subtle, stately, art deco elegance and pale green tones. Apparently it was just recently renovated to its former glory. (image from blog.makezine.com). I enjoyed this brief taste of Berkeley and look forward to future visits. It was a nice ending to an amazing trip.
