On day one of my cross country trip I took route 166 through the Cuyama Valley, located in the obscure northeastern corner of Santa Barbara county. The formations to the north struck me as something right out of Death Valley, with their expansive folds and striations. Turns out that this is the south side of Carrizo Plain National Monument, which I have been to, but this part looks very different. There is a part of me that wants to get out and walk all over these folds and striations for as long as it takes... to get to know them, I guess.
