That night we crossed into California, gained an hour, and stayed in the little desert town of Blythe. Driving through the desert went fast, both that night and the following day when we set our sights on Joshua Tree National Park. It was surprisingly chilly there, but we nevertheless found our own private moonscape to wander around.Back in Texas Kate learned just how fiercely a desert plant can bite. Here she is making peace with a sharp and spiny young Joshua tree.
