We were hiking back via the upper Balconies trail and all was well... The weather was warm and these pretty blue wildflowers made an appearance.
Not too much further ahead, this adult rattlesnake also made an appearance, right in the middle of the trail. Assuming a defensive posture, it effectively blocked our forward progress.
Not being rattlesnake-grabbers, we turned around and returned the way we came.
