Laura Plantation

We took a very interesting tour of the Laura Plantation, one of the few remaining Creole plantations upriver from New Orleans, in the vicinity of Vacherie. The Creole style as seen here has a French West Indian flavor as opposed to the white-pillared Anglo-American mansions one usually associates with the South.
The plantation was created in 1804 by Guillame Duparc. Its present day name refers to Laura Locoul Gore, the last descendant of the Duparc family to live here. According to my friend Wikipedia, the parents of singer Fats Domino also lived here.
