The Cascades

Sometimes you bring along your copy of the book Peaceful Places San Francisco and based on the description, you decide to check out a place called The Cascades at Joaquin Miller Park high up in the Oakland Hills. It proves to be difficult to find and, even when you are there, no one seems to have heard of it. Still, you find it and appreciate the 1930's New Deal public works grandiosity of the place which is slightly tinged with that specific melancholy that the Bay Area sometimes sometimes specializes in.
The Cascades themselves, a man made waterfall issuing from the back of an art deco amphitheater, appears to have run dry, furthering the sense of melancholy.
