Sometimes, for the first time, you go to the Obon Festival in Salinas. In Japanese culture, Obon means honoring the spirits of one's ancestors. It was a delightful experience. In true Salinas fashion, we had to park off site so that a Mexican man could drive us to the authentic Japanese Buddhist temple in a school bus. The temple is beautiful and surrounded by the city's derelict China Town. Below, taiko drummers going at it under gray skies.
