the day the whales began

Sometimes you swing by Marina State Beach and are thrilled to discover scores of humpback whales only hundreds of feet offshore. You see more breaches, spouts and flukes in ten minutes than on all the whale-watching trips you've ever taken combined. What with birds swirling around overhead and the occasional dolphin pod passing through, it is quite a spectacle; it is a marine feeding frenzy the likes of which you have never seen.
