Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monument

I remember when Bill Clinton created the Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monument on my birthday in 1996 and I had wanted to see it ever since. Not long after we left Bryce Canyon we learned that we were driving right through it. The monumental formation above is called Canaan Peak. At dusk we had the awesome experience of seeing an elk in the riverbed below.
