Sometimes you return to a Japanese restaurant in a strip mall in the desert because you have a positive memory of it. So you go there, and while the food and hibachi performance are okay, there is something slightly off. Nevertheless, the sense of Ridgecrest as a town occupying an alternative universe on the periphery of consciousness remains intact.
