Eagle Pass, TX

Having never heard of the border town of Eagle Pass, nor having any expectations of it, we were pleasantly surprised to have a nice stopover there. The Motel 6 we resigned ourselves to turned out to be one of the newly redesigned ones, having a clever, compact and cozy feel. Who would have expected to find the mega-chain's award winning foray into modern, minimalist, "boutique" design here on the Mexican border? And yet we did.
The room looked out onto a little park with a lake. The next day we had breakfast on the lakefront and were joined by a wide variety of feathered friends...
...the majority of which approached us like panhandlers, whereas the old codger below sat beside us like man's best friend, enjoying the view of the lake.

  1. Ducks are highly intelligent (compared to chickens).

As for the motel, I guess when you pump as many "creative" kids through design and art school as we have in the last twenty years, the world benefits from nicer amenities.

  2. Supposedly it was a "London-based design team" that cracked this nut...
