Monterey's missing letterbox

In keeping with our habit of letterboxing -- something we did successfully in Santa Barbara, Lake Tahoe and Mandeville -- we followed a long set of clues through Friendly Plaza, a beautiful park in Monterey. Among other things we stopped to pet the bear in front of Colton Hall, where California's first constitution was written and ratified in 1849.The clues led us to this yew tree, where I got down and dirty in search of the thing... Sadly, apart from the dirt under my fingernails, there was nothing to show for my efforts. Still, it was worth the journey, as they say.
Across the street was the Monterey Museum of Art...
...where I once had a moment of artistic glory.
