...this spectacularly beautiful home, said to have belonged to a steamboat captain. Apparently it survived the hurricane.

  1. Great photos. What I find interesting is how Mr Pitt and his fellow builders brought this overplayed Dwell Magazine, Southern California aesthetic to New Orleans. I have mixed feelings here. On the positive side, homes were built, families were housed. Alternatively, this soulless "meant to photograph well" style is wildly out of place and can't hold a candle to the craziness of the indigenous architecture of the area. That said, old houses can get musty and suffer from bad air flow. That said, good air flow and bad prefab might just generate a whole new set of unforeseen problems.
